Flowers Thru The Winter

( Winter 2011 )

If you care about flowers and have an optimistic personality, growing inside flowering plants through the winter is a great way to go. I’ve grown paper whites, amaryllis, and crocuses inside. You can grow tulips, hyacinths, almost any bulb. The internet has lots of informational sites. Just google “forcing bulbs in winter” on how to grow them. Basically you just plant the bulbs in soil, water or stones and wait usually three to four weeks. Make sure you have healthy bulbs. You don’t have to feed them, as they have enough nutrients on their own. These flowers will give you a nice reminder that spring is on its way, and winter doesn’t last forever.
