The Herb Garden project is for those interested in all aspects of the history, cultivation and practical use of herbs. We will grow herbs, collect and preserve them, utilize them in a series of hands on workshops while developing the current garden into an attractive and useful public space.
Location:
Adjacent to Santa Fe County Extension Office complex, 3229 Rodeo Road
Goal:
Beautify and enhance the existing Herb Garden, creating infrastructure as needed to make the garden a destination for picnics, relaxation and contemplation.
Expand the current repertoire of herbs under cultivation according to the specific interest of project members.
Organize and deliver 3 to 6 hands-on workshops utilizing the herbs we have grown.
Continue the composting project which creates valuable soil amendments for MGA projects.
Looking for volunteers who:
Have an interest in learning about herbs, engaging in planning, organizing and hands-on work to further the stated goals starting from a modest beginning.
Work Schedule:
To be determined by the volunteers. Objectives will be prioritized and scheduled based on MG member participation and resources. One or two meetings/work sessions per month throughout the gardening season, with a mixture of development of the existing sight and hands-on educational sessions
Additional Info:
You will be able to take home herbs, seedlings and plant material for personal use, as well as herbal products created at workshops.
Although we may grow some herbs with medicinal benefits, the focus will not be on uses of medicinal herbs as our agreement with the County does not allow prescription or education on medicinal herb use.
