The 2019 Board
The Current Board Members
Cullen moved to Santa Fe from El Paso in 1976 to attend St. John’s College. A practicing attorney for 34 years, he is currently with Sommer, Udall, Hardwick & Jones. His involvement in SFMGA since 2014 includes having served on the board as treasurer, as vice president, and in 2018 as co-president. He’s a member of both SCAT and SNaPP and a project leader for the Cactus Garden and the municipal Tree Inventory. In addition to his life-long love of gardening, Cullen enjoys teaching classes on range conditions and native-plant identification.
A registered horticultural therapist, Kathy moved to Santa Fe a few years ago. She became an MG in 2016 and joined the board to help with website redesign and as communications director this past year. Kathy has an MBA and has been a trustee on two New York boards of education, along with previous board service for various organizations. Besides her work with SFMGA, she volunteers for the Santa Fe Botanical Garden and for the Santa Fe Alliance for Science.
Jamie Painter, Co-President Jamie joined the SFMGA board in 2016, working first on publicity, then as treasurer, and in 2018 as co-president. He took on the SFMGA training to become a better vegetable gardener and landscaper, which has come to pass largely because of his involvement with various SFMGA projects. Jamie grew up in West Virginia. His career was in telecommunications and software development management, mostly in northern Virginia. He and his wife, Stacy, moved to Tesuque in 2007 and have never looked back. Prior to joining SFMGA, Jamie was treasurer for the Tesuque Water Association.
Chesney has an MBA in finance and a law degree. Her father gave her a passion for trees as a child, and she did her senior thesis on medicinal herbs. She was an MG and a member of the Holborn Herb Growers’ Guild in Ohio and has found it to be especially important to be an MG in New Mexico. She also volunteers for the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary and NDI-NM. In 2018 she served as treasurer on the SFMGA board.
